Climate risk isn’t new, and has been impacting people since the 1800s. Major events, like massive floods and hurricanes, are difficult to predict, yet have huge implications on the local population and agriculture. Fortunately, as technology improves it’s becoming easier to aggregate data and make predictions.

In this post, we interviewed Andres Luhamaa, a Data QA Engineer at Planet OS and an expert on climate data with deep experience in numerical weather prediction, reanalysis, and regional climate modeling. In this interview, Andres talks about disasters associated with climate change, why our current climate modeling capabilities complicate renewable energy planning, and how Planet OS Datahub can provide useful insights for renewable energy sites.
